Currently I’m at Furness college as a first year apprentice, I do both theory and practical work 50/50 in the workshop I am currently doing domestic jobs to get an understanding of the basics of electrical work and in the theory side we’re doing things such as drawing, maths, health and safety, hydraulics
Yes I have learn many new skills especially in the practical side of the job since before joining I had no previous experience in the electrical field so I have learnt many new skills and I have also developed existing skills such as team work, problem solving etc
I am happy with my role at bae systems and they’re a very fair company to work for they also provide a lot of support if you’re facing any issues. I also enjoy the actual job role as I find it extremely fascinating and rewarding
The company has structured the programme well however the training provider (Furness college) fail to provide consistent tutors at the college which can set groups back and make it difficult for them to learn since they have no tutors in multiple areas of the apprenticeship
BAE SYSTEMS provide a lot of support for individuals who are struggling whether this is mental health, struggling with the work, any safe guarding issues like domestic abuse. BAE provide support for anything that is needed and are very supportive
Any level of support needed can be provided if you’re struggling with for example, college work then Furness college will provide the support and also give you second chances on tests if you do not pass the first time
Helps me have a better understanding about a lot of things such as health and safety, drawing and also electrical theory lessons help me understand the work that I’m doing and also the severity of this work.
Not that I’m aware of however I’m currently full time at the training provider for my first year (Furness college) this may be different in the yard
Yes
Because it is an extremely good company to work for with a job for life and a lot of work benefits. I also enjoy the work and there is a variety of roles at bae systems. There’s also a big sense of pride at the workplace due to the nature of work that is carried out here
I would personally say be yourself and go in with an open mind
