  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Reinsurance Apprentice in the UK&I property and Motor team at Aon. Currently my role is primarily Account Management which involves an in-depth understanding of policy wording: drafting and finalizing contracts to be shared with Reinsurers and our clients, ensuring that all subjectivities are pre-approved by our client and other administrative responsibilities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt about reinsurance, developed my network, learnt about policy wordings and improved my attention to detail.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme, particularly the atmosphere in the office, who I have worked with, other apprentices and the opportunities for networking, The study element has been less enjoyable due to harsh deadlines and added pressure but it has helped me in my work environment with required knowledge and developed understanding of aspects within my job role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Aon apprenticeship programme is well structured, with the understanding that this is a full-time job and prioritizes a work-study-life balance. The Davies apprenticeship is also well-structured but has been noted that it involves lots of irrelevant content for many learners since it is not custom to the apprentice.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. The earl careers team are very helpful and my manager and team are very supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive some support from my training provider. Although there are lots of study resources available, there is not a lot of time management or communication between the training provider and my employer which has had negative impacts on my work-study-life balance as their expectations often seem as though they don't recognize the importance of my job role along with the study times.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I would say the qualification does help towards my role and performance as it has built my knowledge around insurance. However, the programme has been centered around Insurance rather than Reinsurance (which is what I work in) meaning that I haven't been able to build a developed understanding of Reinsurance. Although there is a Reinsurance module available through the CII exams, this was not provided as an option for me .

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we have lots of sports teams and extra- curricular activities to get involved in and other groups such as mental health groups, women in technology etc... They are readily available for people to sign-up to.

    8/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The onboarding process was seamless, with constant communication between the Early Careers team and myself. There is constant supoort available through the EC team when we reach out. The social impact project at the end of our apprenticeship through Aon's provision has allowed me to build Teamwork Skills, Project Management skills and a foundation of leadership skills which will hopefully serve me throughout my career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Be prepared to sacrifice some personal time towards your study and apprenticeship course but this is equal to what you would've spent throughout school (homework/ revision) but also prepare for a good working environment with great colleagues and progression opportunities.
