I lead recruitment campaigns for roles across the company including: technology, business, engineering and London Underground. Day to day I complete admin tasks, speak to candidates and stakeholders and personally see to the end to end recruitment for a span of roles.
I learnt every single skill on the job for recruitment and it was my first corporate role. I learnt how to manage candidate profiles and liaise with key stakeholders all while having the support of my team and managers. I have also grown my public speaking and sales skills and I’ve have the chance to put them into practice.
l enjoy the thought that’s gone into the process. There were keep warm events in the summer before everyone starts in September where I got to meet apprentices across the business and ease nerves. As an apprentice you have your team, your peers in your cohort, apprentices from other cohort and other teams and also a sponsor whose role is to guide and support you. I love the work life balance and the expanse of opportunity for those looking to step out of their comfort zones.
The placements are carefully curated and each placement every apprentice has a personal line manager to report to. The team ensures you dont just learn but you actually do what the team does and take ownership for projects and tasks. It’s planned so that by the end of the scheme you learn every skill in every team you could so you can confidently choose where you want to work.
As an employee, there is constant support for physical and mental health at tfl and there’s also an array of communities for support. On the job you’re constantly supported while you get training and there is always someone who willing to help the apprentices out. There’s an incredible feeling of community at TfL and unlike any other company I’ve worked for.
Apprenticeship connect schedules regular classes where we mixed not only with the TfL cohort but also other apprentices learning the same course. Every lesson covered exactly what was needed in a way that suited several different learning types. Our teacher Jess was fantastic she was available any time for extra support and guidance and truly pushed me to achieve the best grades. I’m able to thrive in my role because of the knowledge I gained from that course.
The extensive learning of the laws and legislations that are used in my role was vital in my understanding. By understanding why we have to do what we do helped me succeed in my role and as someone who had never worked in recruitment, the training allowed me to work in the placements as though I’d worked in recruitment for years. It also helped with my collaboration and team working skills through breakout rooms and public speaking from having to present to the class.
There are lots of extra curricular such as several sports teams, quiz clubs, food groups, book clubs, social groups and networking coffee clubs at TfL. If there’s a hobby there’s a group of people who share the interest and it’s super easy to find people with the same passions as you.
Yes
The amount I’ve learnt in the time Ive worked here is incredible but I also feel like someone who’s simply joined the company with the way I’ve been welcomed. There really is a role for everyone and inside and out of the office I feel supported and encouraged to thrive.
Choose what makes you happy and apply, the training is all provided and the company offers so many benefits and perks. It’s such a great place to start a career you can be proud of and wake up everyday actually keen to work. Find a role, do the research and go for it!
