On a day to day basis my role varies some days I can be fabricating pipe spools varying of different sizes, other days I could be hand bending pipes using a set of hand benders. However dependent on too where you placement is you could be fitting pipe onboard.
Yes I have devolved many new skills, before starting this role I wasn’t very confident when meeting new people, throughout my apprenticeship, I have carried out experience days at schools and also open days such as women in engineering. Also this apprenticeship as developed my maths skills and technical skills massively.
I have found the programme great from start to finish, everyone from college tutors, skills coaches, team leaders and tradespeople have been very helpful throughout and made it an enjoyable time.
The programme is very well organised, throughout the apprenticeship you regularly have meetings with your skills coach to update you on your progress, set targets, for write ups and observations, also team leaders sit down and fill out a skills matrix so you know what skills need developing and which you have hit.
The support is unlimited through the employer, skills coaches, team leaders, line managers, areas managers, mental health coaches and many other options throughout the buissness.
When working towards qualifications you get lots of support from skills coaches that coach you along the way for example sit down meetings where you can discuss any issues or they help support you in written work, observation tasks, also you have refresher training to refresh any skills you may have forgotten or not yet learnt.
The qualification helps you become a better tradesperson as you progress through your apprentiship, this is all helped by the training throughout college and then the training that is provided throughout your placements as well as all the help you get from your skills coaches.
There are extra curricular activities to get involved in for example open days at the training school, engineering days at schools, the local apprentice council and many more opportunities.
Yes
I would highly reccomend bae systems to a friend due to it being such a big part of the local area, as well as the excellent apprenticeship programme that helps you to develop in too a tradesperson.
Be yourself, use any experience you have gained prior when interviewing, and don’t be nervous everyone is friendly and happy too help!
