My role consists of supporting programmes of work and leading small projects within
I've developed leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. I've learnt how to use Microsoft Project and other industry standard applications. I've learnt the principles and practice of project management and control.
I enjoy my workplace, the programme I am working on, working with my team and being part of BAE Systems. However, I have no enjoyed the external training course I am completing. I do not feel it is supportive enough for this stage of my career.
Not very. Apprentices in my sector do not have placement plans. We have to wait and see where we will be working, and often find out at very late notice.
It depends on the team you are on placement with. Some teams are extremely supportive, others are not supportive enough. I have experienced both ends of the spectrum.
I don't think I receive enough support from the training provider. As an apprentice I am at the very start of my career. I have no experience or knowledge in project management. The online workshops I attend for my qualification are simply PowerPoint presentations discussing the principles of project management, with some further reading links. The course does not teach us how to actively put these principles to use, for that I rely heavily on my team in the workplace. As the course requires 80% work product / evidence based submissions, I would expect more support to produce these.
It has taught me a top level understanding of the principles of project management, but not on my organisations level. I feel that I could have learnt what I need to by completing a less intense course, by reading some APM manuals, or through training and shadowing at work.
Yes my workplace is very social. We often plan social events, team meals, sports activities, work trips, etc.
Yes
Having worked in the public sector, retail industry, family business, and now private business (BAE Systems), I can say hand on heart that it is the best job I have ever had. Employees are valued and cared about, mental & physical wellbeing is prioritised, the workplace environment is positive and the company strives to improve and grow with the world around it. I have been given many opportunities to travel, be involved in STEM events, network, volunteer for roles such as Ethics Officer and Apprentice Council.
Network & be involved in as much as you can. There are many opportunities on offer and people to form connections with. Both will aid you in your future career.
