Manage a team of 40+ employees to deliver contract catering, retail and cleaning within a military base setting. This includes day to day as well as one off function catering and serving in excess of 100 guests, including Royalty and high profile guests.
I have learnt many new skills surrounding the wider business especially around strategy, marketing and business development. I have been involved in new projects surrounding reward and recognition restructures outside my business at a senior level. I hope to be involved in more in the future.
My programme has enabled me to expand on my knowledge and skills that benefit myself and change my approach to situational management, as well being more future focused. The structure of the programme has worked well when balancing with work and life in general.
The early part whilst at university was structured well, with clear tasks and workload to manage. As we are coming to the end, it has become less structured as the demands have changed for the course, which has been frustrating given so close to completion.
My line manager is extremely supportive of my apprenticeship, and is always at hand to offer advice, answer questions, and support my development in line with my learnings. We discuss the course frequently, and any potential projects I can be involved in to support my learning and experience.
This has reduced over the recent months as I have been heading to end point assessment, and would like more support. This has been due to issues outside of my control and hopefully resolved as soon as possible.
I feel the training and learning through Aston University has developed me in my current role, but also has more impact in more senior roles that I would wish to explore in the future. The level of control of strategic thinking and impact in my role is less so than a more senior role within my sector.
The company allows for employees to join various networks within the company that may interest and benefit the employee. I am currently involved in the Ability network and looking to join others following my course finishing.
Yes
After being with the company for almost 3 years now, I have felt nothing but support in my role from the senior leadership team and my peers. The support that is available on a daily basis is phenomenal, and a real 'team' culture in place. The options and support for personal development and growth are some of the best I have seen within a hospitality sector.
Apply with an open mind. This is far from frontline hospitality that I have experienced previously, but offers a totally different insight to world many don't consider within the sector. They truly are the biggest company you have never heard of!
