  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a technical support assistant, specialising in facility contracts. These contracts act as a one-stop shop for clients with a risk which fits inside the scope of the facility. On a daily basis I will ensure that facilities have not breached their Premium Income Limit, oversee renewing facilities through the OWOP process (which involves checking the MRC and attaching declarations) and helping the BU which I am assigned to (Terrorism) with any technical queries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt how to navigate MRCs competently and understand what all the sections mean. I have learnt how to network and communicate with colleagues from various different lines of business (including overseas). Furthermore, I have also learnt how to use software such as Eclipse, Microsoft Excel and Power BI to a high standard, as well as the following Lloyds platforms: Atlas and Delegated Contract Oversight Manager (DCOM).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. So far I have received lots of structured support from The Growth Company, including having a skills tutor assigned to me, to provide guidance in completing my CPD learning log, as well as study sessions to help us through the first exams we encounter on our apprenticeship. Both of these have been really helpful, boosted my progression and developed my understanding of the insurance industry.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. This comes in the form of multiple e-learning courses (such as their WTW Espresso learning series), support in completing the CII modules and access to resources such as Microsoft Co pilot (AI), which has really helped me with revising for the exams I sit.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As referenced in my answer to question 4, we have received lots of support from The Growth Company in working towards our qualifications. This includes access to resources like Empower Development, which breaks down the topics covered in the textbook through short and insightful videos, revision tools uploaded by their tutors onto the Its Learning site and regular revision sessions with one of their tutors. We had Marcus Dootson, who really helped us grasp an understanding of the more complicated areas in the modules.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The Growth Company ensure that we have a good understanding of the module topics before sitting the exams through their revision sessions, and this understanding has proved invaluable in undertaking my daily tasks. For example, a vast amount of the topics in the LM2 exam (MRCs, facilities and binding authorities) are what we oversee in my team.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are a vast amount of societies and groups to join at WTW. For example, I am part of the Early Careers Network (ECN) which hold monthly coffee randomisers to provide you with an opportunity to meet new people from different areas of the organisation.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • WTW is one of the top insurance brokerages, with their London office located opposite the Lloyds marketplace, in what is generally know as the insurance capital world. Furthermore, WTW provides colleagues with the opportunity to gain CII qualifications which are highly regarded in the Financial Services sector. Beyond insurance, WTW has a great company culture, focussing on excellent client service, transformation, product specialism and encouraging growth.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • To apply with an open mind to learning and transformation, as the ability to adapt and continuously grow is essential to thriving in an ever-changing industry, and especially within a company which is at the cutting-edge of that change.
