I was the cybersecurity apprentice - I monitored the teams mailboxes, handled incidents and triaged vulnerability notifications that were received. I also had several apprenticeship duties - such as producing reports and attending classroom sessions.
I developed time management, communication and stakeholder management skills during my time here. I also developed technical skills, including the use of SIEM tools, and general knowledge in the area of cybersecurity.
I enjoy my programme thoroughly, the team and the general atmosphere of the company are both amazing. There is a great emphasis placed on continual development of every employee. The learning provider was filled with friendly and knowledgeable staff.
The programme had a very clear structure, I received the dates and meeting invites to my classroom sessions in good time before them. I had regular catch up sessions with my skills coach to monitor my progress and discuss any challenges that I was facing
My employer was incredibly supportive. My manager helped me with any questions that I had, and during the End Point Assessment process, and throughout the course of my programme, colleagues from wider areas of the business were more than willing to support me.
The training provider was incredibly supportive for the duration of the programme. They provided me with lots of learning material, and all the staff within the company were incredibly supportive. It really impressed me that they proactively reached out to offer support with my hearing impairment.
Comparing my knowledge and confidence in my abilities when I first started the programme to where they are at the time of writing, I feel it is clear that I have improved in both, though I am aware that there is a lot more for me to learn.
My employer has a large variety of activities. For example, there is an IT book club, most of the teams also volunteer to contribute to the communities around the business.
Yes
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with my employer, and they provide many great benefits. I have actually recommended them to one of my friends who shares a similar interest in working in IT.
I would recommend that any prospects remain positive throughout the recruitment process, it can sometimes feel like it may be going nowhere, but they will hear back. There is no need to be perfect, just be the most authentic version of yourself.
