My role is an apprentice, i am currently learning and being actively trained to be able to work within the C&I technician team and alone on routine and fault finding jobs. On top of this i do BTEC and NVQ, aiming for distinctions to further complete my HNC later on.
I have learnt a large variety of skills, that are required to help me qualify and work at the power station. Some examples being, calibration, fault finding, team building, etc.
I enjoy my programme, it can be tiring with workloads, however, the hard work pays off eventually. I enjoy the people i work with.
My programme is structured very well, i have good support outlets if need be, and work can be easily accessed on the platforms i need to use.
I receive so much support from my employers, they have been so supportive in helping me with work and training.
My training provider has been helpful when it comes working towards my qualifications, can be improved, but the help has always been available.
My qualification through my training provider has given me handy skills that help towards my performance at work. I can use these skills on jobs and give some knowledge on equipment and systems used.
There are many extra-curricular activities going and being promoted in my work, i personally have never joined any however from seeing them promoted i know that there are extra-curricular activities.
Yes
The working environment is great, colleagues are more than happy to help me gain useful knowledge and help when i ask, there are so many benefits given to employees when joining SSE, for example discounts on holidays and gyms, etc. The training is free, so you wont be left in debt after the programme, and you will have a great salary at the end of the apprenticeship programme.
Be yourself, have an open mind to work, work hard because it pays off and take every opportunity that is given.
