I am currently working in the High security engineering department where we manufacture and design custodial locks and windows. My day to day work involves redesigning locks, problem solving on the shopfloor and carrying out modifications to continuously improve our products.
I have learnt countless new practical and theory skills. During my first year of training i gained skills on CAD Design, Hydraulic & Pneumatic systems, milling, turning, welding, electrical and CNC machining. During my time at ASSA ABLOY my design skills using the SolidWorks software have vastly improved
I enjoy every aspect of my apprenticeship. I loved my first year of off the job training at In-Comm where i was learning a new subject every 6 weeks. Since starting at ASSA ABLOY full time i have been able to put my training into practice and make a positive impact on the company.
Since i started my apprenticeship the programmed has been very clearly structured. I have regular meetings with my apprentice manager where we discuss my progress. I started my programme by completing 10 week placements in each department, this was clearly organized for me to gain an insight into the different areas of the business.
I receive regular support from my employer whether that be from HR or my apprentice manager. They always ensure I am up to date with my coursework and are there to assist me when needs be.
From In-comm my training provider i recieve regular emails and phone calls to see how i am getting on with my coursework. They also visit my company once a month to go over any paperwork and to assist me with any issues.
The training i gained during my time with my training provider is very valuable and allows me to progress in my day-to-day work on site.
I have taken part in a couple of open days with my work to inspire the future talent. I also have attended multiple operational excellence events which highlight the previous years successes. Each department may organise their own social events such as cricket, golf, darts and also football.
