On a day to day basis I am usually handling data on the backend or creating graphs and reporting the data to stakeholders, these could be within the company or external stakeholders.
I have developed skills on spreadsheet and greatly expanded skills on SQL as well as learning how to use more complex graphing software.
The programme is fantastic, depending on your placement can impact how many days you work from home and the uni days give you a break from day to day work and time to hang out with other apprentices in your scheme, as well as opportunities like outward bound.
On the whole it is very well structured with my uni days, block release and placement work, however unlike other schemes there is no defined training so it means when you enter a new placement you spend 2-3 weeks learning on the job, some placements have a set plan, others are less structured.
We receive a lot of support, if an apprentice has any issues there are about 5 people you can raise the issue with and your skills coach is a very good point of contact for anything.
I feel this is one of the weak places of the apprenticeships, the course feels like we are doing the same thing over again e.g. a poster or presentation on a topic and it feels like one too many lectures aren't relevant to data analytics. However it does get better with the second topic moving onto statistics and programming.
In my job role it feels like the uni course has allowed me to learn more about the company and how we are using certain technologies and I feel once I learn more from the uni it will help but at the moment I am learning more from other employees teaching me.
Extra-curricular is a standout of this company, the opportunities offered allow you to be as involved or uninvolved as you want but they teach you skills that you can transfer into the work place as well as an opportunity to meet people from other sites and other schemes.
Yes
Due to the opportunities, work-life balance and the people you'll meet. I've already recommended working for BAE to multiple friends who've applied.
Be confident and the interview and engage with the interviewer, think of it more as a chat and enjoy it. Also don't be disappointed if you get offered a place on another scheme, it still gives great opportunities.
