  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Supply Chain Apprentice. Each module I study in Uni, I join a relevant department to consolidate my learning. It is really exciting and brings the theory to life! For example, If I'm studying Procurement then I will join the procurement team and my Uni assignment will be based on that. Mon - Thur I am in office and participate in meetings and work. Friday is my university day where I have an online lecture and work on my assignments.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my course. I am always learning something new and developing my skillset. I love moving around different departments to understand each departments responsibility and culture within the team. I am passionate about JLR as a company so it really makes me proud to work here. I was the first cohort for this course so I wish there was more organisation and visibility of what I would be doing in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is brand new so the organisation has not been amazing. Currently I do not know when my next placement is or when my current one ends. However I have been given many opportunities to move around the company and expand my learning. When I joined, there was no advice on where to live, so I rented a professional houseshare in Solihull. This was not enjoyable because I was far away from all the apprentice social events which are held in Leamington or Coventry. I now live in Leamington so I can get involved with the well organised apprentice social events and I my social life has vastly improved.

  • I receive great support from JLR. This is because I have a mentor that is really passionate about helping me and JLR provide many wellbeing services. My managers are flexible and understanding of University requirements, they are always willing to provide extra support. For each placement Ive had, the team have been extremely welcoming and eager to support me!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training from Aston University is extremely beneficial and transferable to the workplace. This is because the lecturers have a wide range of real life experience so can bring the theory to life with examples. It is also extremely beneficial that what I learn in lectures I then implement in real life in my day to day role. My university assignments are extremely relevant to each department that Ive joined and consolidate my learning,

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Originally when I joined, I really struggled to get involved in social events because I was based in Solihull and most apprentices lived in Leamington. Since I've moved to Leamington, I have been involved with lots of social events. I am part of the Badminton and Football social groups. I have also been caving with other apprentices as part of the Invest In You scheme where JLR pay towards a learning activity.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for with endless opportunities. JLR has an extremely friendly and inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves. It fills me with pride every time I see a Range Rover on the road and I am constantly pushing myself to learn more.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • I would ensure that your morals are in line with JLRs core values. Make sure you've got a range of experience and skills such as: DofE, customer service skills, communication skills, teamwork skills etc. I recommend looking for accommodation around Leamington as this is the main central hub of JLR.
