I work in Public Affairs and Campaigns, supporting the National Influencing Team make dementia a priority amongst national decision makers. My activities range from managing finances, drafting briefings/comms for decision makers/senior members of staff, support with events, admin, to supporting people living with dementia participate in our work.
I have developed a plethora of skills throughout the programme, but most notably is my confidence. I have seen a huge improvement in recognising the value of my own skills, allowing me to meaningfully contribute in projects I feel passionate about.
The apprenticeship was extremely enjoyable, and gave me the knowledge, skills and confidence to grow in my team. I am grateful for my trainer, who always made content engaging, and for my colleagues across the organisation for giving me opportunities that I may not have otherwise had if I were not an apprentice.
From the start, the plan for my apprenticeship was clear, and communication between my organisation and trainer was great. My progress reviews were a great opportunity to discuss my progress and what I needed to do to maximise the output of the course.
I cannot emphasise how supportive my organisation was during my apprenticeship. From my line manager, supportive colleagues in my team, to a dedicated team supporting all apprentices across the society. My voice felt heard, and I knew if I had any concerns where to go.
If I ever needed any more support, my training provider was there. I can only praise the support from SCL.
As mentioned, it gave me the confidence I needed, and helped consolidate any knowledge I needed to meaningfully contribute to my team.
There are some sports teams to join depending on your location, and different teams have different activities - for example, mine hosts a book club. As we work remotely, we do make an effort to come together for team building activities.
Yes
It is an incredibly supportive environment, and I couldn't be more grateful for my colleagues - especially as I start out my career.
We are an organisation true to our values, if you align with them, give it your best shot. It's a great organisation with a wide range of roles available, there will be something for you if you are passionate to make a difference.
