  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work within the Product Management team in Abloy, looking after our product data as well as working closely with each of the PMs, who look after our different portfolio ranges. I get involved in item creation - so that customers are able to place orders, our sales teams - when they have problems/feedback on the Shared Catalogue I work on, customers who have problems with our ecommerce platforms - like Web-shop and more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Confidence - it has grown a huge amount after starting here, due to being asked to do different things like attending schools to present in assemblies, present to work experience and people visiting the company. Technology - my unit is classed as the Pro-digital sector, so getting involved in our different product ranges has given me insight into the industry and where we sit in it and hw we differ from competitors.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my course, leaving school and coming straight into the world of work, seemed a little daunting at first, but at ASSA Abloy, we're all treated equally and as one. The course I'm doing is informative, enjoyable but also challenging - which I enjoy, because when you're challenged you learn a wealth of knowledge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My course is well structured, both by my company and training provider. I have monthly ODRs with my line manager and tutor, so we're all on the same page and can discuss any wins concerns we may have. I'm also given time out of my working week to catch up on any coursework I need to do and log off the job hours, to make sure i stay on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot, from both line manager/colleagues and HR. I have regular PDRs and professional discussions, to make sure I'm constantly challenging and pushing myself to strive better personally and professionally. HR offer regular drop in sessions for discussions on any topics, we also have whole site activities where it encourages a community and family feel.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is in regular contact with me, I know when and how I can get in touch with my tutor as well as safe guarding leads - this is reinforced at the start of every meeting/PDR/discussion and is also on the learning portal I use.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification I'm working toward now, which is Business Analyst, will help me to work towards a career in Product Management, within Abloy. The goal is to be a PM within Abloy and have my own set of products to look after. A Business Analyst looks to improve systems and process, by looking and analysing data - which I've already spent a year and a half working with, so this will help me gather evidence and know what to put into projects once I'm qualified.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I've attended an Akeneo Unlock event, which is our PIM system provider, which allows us centralise and manage product data in one place. They held an all day event in London, where a small group of our company attended as this is the system some of us work on daily. It went through new features, how to embrace and use AI for the better, as well as presenting us with a networking opportunity as there were around 300 people there. Certain business units hold their own sports day, where it gives competitive challenge but also a chance to let off steam. We also hold lots of different site activities ranging from well-being sessions, pensions to packaging companies and more.
