On a day to day basis I work as a data analyst and solution developer. I process financial data and create automated analyzers for the audit teams, helping them in their audit processes and identifying risks. Every project is unique and requires problem solving, critical thinking, team collaboration and attention to detail.
I have developed technical skills in Microsoft applications like excel, in Alteryx which EY uses to automate data processing and in Power Bi which is used to present data. I have also developed critical thinking and soft skills like problem solving, team collaboration and attention to detail. There is a lot of opportunity for skilling up and developing in my role.
I enjoy the collaboration and team spirit we have as well as the ever increasing drive for us to upskill and participate in different opportunities. I am able to travel for team events and training and meet a huge variety of people and learn how different businesses work and how we can help them improve.
The is a clear structure to my program and I receive a timetable every year for the different courses I will have. The structure has changed a few times over my years as an apprentice but this has been due to apprentice feedback which EY and BPP take onboard to tailor the apprentice experience.
EY offers a lot of support to their apprentices and employees alike. We are paired with "buddies" in the team for any questions we may have and everyone has a "counsellor" assigned from the wider team for general advice, to discuss career trajectories and for someone to speak up for you when needed. There are also health services available to employees.
Everyone is assigned a coach who is our first point of contact for any queries. We have a catch up call every month to give an opportunity to discuss progress or any worries and Bpp (the college) make sure our courses are enough to fulfill the apprentice standard and for our portfolio.
Our assessments give us an opportunity to evaluate how we can help our business improve using what we have learned, we do not always apply what we learn in the courses in our role as not everything can be relevant but learning these new topics and skills opens up opportunities for future development in our role.
Yes, I often join webinars at work on various topics ranging from technical skills to health and wellbeing. We also have sports and socials that you can participate in after work and get involved in organising. EY is very well rounded in this regard, we have multiple "Networks" where people can join groups based on common interest or identity and these groups often get together.
Yes
EY has given me a wide array of opportunities to develop myself, that being, technical skills, career wise, soft skills etc. The business cares about their employees desires for there own career developement as well as health and wellbeing. It is a very well rounded business with a great diversity of people and roles.
Be open to trying different roles and to your role changing throughout the apprenticeship as this requires constant upskilling and reacclimating. Also do not hesitate to reach out to your team our counsellor if you are having issues at work as they will try to accommodate for you and help.
