My role is as a trainee buyer. My daily role consists of sample management, managing fit sessions with the assistant buyer and the technical team as well as cosntantly looking out at competition and creating creative reports.
Throughout the programme I have been on a number of training days that have furthered my development. This consists of time managment training as well as personal effectiveness training. I have been able to apply these skills to my day to day role. I have also learnt new skills in excel which have drastically helped me in my role.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme. The opportunities for development are great and te exposure is excellent. It met my expectations and more as it has allowed me to really experience in a in depth way the buying and merchandsing industry.
I generally feel very valued by my team. It is important to shout about what you are working on in such a fast passed environment though.
Due to being the first intake of the programme there were a few organisational issues to begin with however these were dealbt with quickly and effectively. I was never left out of the loop. There is support avaiable within work for studying, your line manager and other team members are keen to know what you are working on at college.
We have constant access to support at the college. We can use the library facilites whenver we need to as well as email our college tutor who is usually very quick to respond. I have enjoyed the ability to access resources as it has really helped in completing the final project.
HR are great and so are the early careers team in providing support. They are always availble on email and in person if we need to discuss anything. I have a mentor who I am able to discuss my project with and PDP and they are great at providing a different look on what it is I am studying. Everyone is willing to spare time to help you go through work.
Generally it is quite good as I still live at home therefore my rent is not too high. I feel as though if I had to relocate it may have been a little more difficult. Overial however it has worked out well for the first two years.
There are always opportunites outside of work to particpate in. I have helped out at career days and helped out at local schools to try and promote the scheme. It has been great for my development as I have had to speak in front of large groups.
Yes
I would recommend Tesco because there are great development opportunities and the training is excellent. In addition being on a programme has really helped with my exposure to other people within the business.
I would advise to be prepared as much as possible for the interview with examples for every situation. Be willing to take on any opportunity presented to you as it will only benefit your development. Be prepared for a fast passed environment with many challenges.
