Signalling Design Assistant for the railway, carrying out correlation updates that are received from site teams, carrying out Detailed Design, scanning and printing, quality checks on work completed and anything leaving the office.
Yes, I have learned people skills, technical skills and a lot of information regarding the railway and how it works.
I very much enjoy it, most of the people are very nice and friendly, and I enjoy the work most of the time.
The organisation and structure was much better at the beginning, it is still good however it got a little erratic towards the end as the training company became very busy.
I receive a good amount of support from my employer regarding work, sickness and holidays.
I receive a good amount of support but need to be aware that most of the effort will be required on my end and I cannot rely solely on the training provider.
Most of the training has been applicable to my role, especially the Basic and Intermediate Signalling Technology, as well as the MOD5 training that allows me to work as a test assistant on site.
We arrange our own social events, there are also volunteering opportunities.
Yes
They have treated me very well, the pay is fair and it is a well structured company.
In the rail sector, be prepared for fluctuations in the amount and type of work that you receive due to funding from Network Rail, there will be busy and quiet periods.
