  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a building surveyor, mainly acting as a project manager, my day-to-day work varies. No day is ever the same with a mixture of office work and on-site inspections. I'm lucky to work on a wide variety of different projects, in both size and asset class.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have significantly improved my organisation and people skills as a project manager. Organising and ensuring all project parties are up-to-date and providing the necessary information when required. Both my vocal and written skills have improved as a result of this too.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although the time management of my degree apprenticeship has been challenging, i thoroughly enjoy the programme and looking forward to the future of seeing what my role and career brings.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised and structured. There is lots of support available, when required. The training available is excellent and very frequent.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots, any issues or queries that I have I am able to ask the apprentice HR team and i always receive a positive supportive answer.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Exactly the amount required my support officer is always checking in to ensure I am ok and if I require any support or guidance.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification from UCEM has provided me with very relevant and current information, supporting my everyday work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, work is more that a 9-5 job for me and any opportunities to involve myself in networking or team/division events I will always attend. There are lots of sports teams and opportunities, I currently play in the mixed hockey team.

  • Ensure you know the role you are applying for, complete as much work experience as possible to show you are proactive and willing to learn.
