I help manage a housing development of 220 houses. I am based on site, and in the on site office. I program in construction trades, complete quality control measures and ensure the build runs smoothly from foundations to completion.
Many new skills have been learnt and previous ones have been developed. These include my decision making, people management and problem solving.
The programme I am on is great for developing into a construction manager as I learn theory at university and on site. I enjoy being able to learn and develop in the industry while maintaining a good work-life balance.
All in, SJ Roberts and in particular our apprenticeship manager is great at organising and aiding my learning and development within the company with regular phone call check ins and quarterly meetings with both my workplace manager and university tutor.
There is lots of support from my apprentice manager and from others all around me; personal tailored support is available if needed and check-ins are regular to ensure all is running smooth and well.
BCU are very good and my tutor is great at helping if ever there is a problem or query to resolve.
I think, now in my 3rd year that the course is more relevant and will allow me to perform better as it is now more suited to the works I conduct.
There are extra curricular activities such as 5k runs to participate in which has a variety of team members take part in. in the head office, there is also bake sales and many charity events to get involved with too.
Yes
This is because the support is great and the team are friendly, there are many different opportunities and ways to progress.
I'd recommend reaching out with a strong CV, showing a great interest into the construction industry.
