I am a coach for Network Rail's L3 Rail Engineering Technician apprentices, as part of the Experience and Engagement team. I provide SME support and guidance to learners and line managers. I complete progress reviews with apprentices throughout their learner journey, and feed back progression to key stakeholders. Coaches monitor safeguarding and welfare of learners and we role model the company's core values.
Both!, I have learnt new skills and developed on old ones that I haven't used in a long time. Since starting my apprenticeship I have been learning more new skills such as coaching styles and contracting for coaches.
I am finding the coaching apprenticeship really interesting and enjoyable. It has been a great opportunity to learn with coaches from other industries and business functions. The group I am learning with are all really friendly too.
The structure works well for me. The course is broken into modules which we complete in advance of a workshop. There are assignments which accompany the modules too.
We are given time to complete our work and support to adjust our workload if this is needed. Network Rail promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion across the business and there are learning resources and available to support and educate on these topics. There is also a dedicated 24/7 counselling service available to all employees. I feel very supported.
Our coach [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been brilliant, helping with queries quickly when we have had any issues with IT etc... emails are answered quickly.
The new skills learnt are really valuable. I feel better able to support learners to reach their goals. They are all valuable tools that I can use to improve how I work and to enable me to deliver a better quality service to our customers.

Yes
I work as part of a brilliant team who are really supportive and caring, and have helped me to develop into this role.
Ask all of your questions! Don't be afraid to be your authentic self. Sometimes the application windows for apprenticeships can be really long, keep checking back.
