  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role involves various daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities. For instance, I am responsible for supporting with external apprenticeship recruitment, conducting eligibility screening calls for a number of apprentice vacancies. I also look after the diary to ensure all meetings are correctly organised in the right frequencies; monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly. I also communicate with hiring managers for their apprentice vacancies weekly updating them with eligible candidates. Monthly I am responsible for 2 important data tasks that contribute to monthly reports - I identify National insurance numbers and dates of birth for new apprentices in preparation for the monthly payroll report and I send monthly delivery partner reports to obtain data about apprentices on programmes with each delivery partner.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have learnt to be more strict with my time. Forward planning has been a skill I have recently seen the advantages of. Prioritizing tasks in order to give enough time to each responsibility so the quality of work is of a high level across the board. I also have improved my data management skills. I do need to work on my diary management skills more so, as that is the area of my work that is the weakest.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my programme. I believe I am learning and developing at a good pace and since the turn of the year, I believe my output has been really productive and KPIs are being hit regularly as a result of the KSBs I've learnt and are putting into practice. My line manager and tutor are both very supportive, positive and encouraging so I feel I am in the best hands to develop further and succeed with a distinction.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the structure is very good. My tutor sometimes moulds the learning to the individual. Modules have move around depending on what we've been doing in the job which has helped to further progress my skills. I think it is very well organised, my tutor arranges meetings/sessions and 1-2-1s in advance and sets assignments with a good deadline date to makes sure the work is completed to a high standard without rushing.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support received from my employer is substantial. It certainly helps being part of the apprenticeships team at Compass, whilst completing my apprenticeship as they are familiar and recognize how important support is for an apprentice. My line manager offers their vast experience and gives advice on how to improve my abilities. We have touchpoint calls every month too to check in and discuss our apprenticeship journey from a wellbeing perspective.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They are very approachable and they encourage and give positive feedback where possible, as well as good healthy constructive feedback where necessary to further enhance my learning and development.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that my L3 Business Administration apprenticeship has helped me to perform my job role better in a number of different ways. I came to the role with no background in administration, I have an acting background and hospitality work is all I've ever done. I'd say everything I've picked up from the qualification has directly impacted and enhanced my job role performance.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have recently joined the Compass 6 a side football group, who meet every Monday to play a 6 a side match. In terms of other events, I have been to Xcelerate for their 1 year anniversary and networked with likeminded individuals who are passionate about apprenticeships and soon will be attending the Springboard Excellence Awards at Wembley on 2nd April.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Compass Group UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a wonderful, people first company. They look after and want their employees to succeed, develop and progress. The team I am a part of are incredibly supportive and always check in on wellbeing with 1-2-1s and team lunches. The routes of progression and opportunity are also incredible. I'm glad I managed to land a job and an apprenticeship at Compass. In my job search at the time, every company wanted experience that I never had and when I saw the apprenticeship at Compass, I had to apply. It has changed my career path and my quality of life. It is and continues to be a wonderful journey.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Compass Group UK & Ireland?
  • Can I write the word apply 50 times to fill the word count? Joking aside, I would say research Compass beforehand, get to understand their values and what the company aims to achieve. I turned up to my interview with a notebook full of research and questions. Be inquisitive, show your desire to learn and grow and you won't go far wrong.
