My job role includes; Prioritising changes in the business, making sure information is collated an updated to be used and shared within the region, working with others within my wider team to update core documents for the portfolio, helping to collate information for monthly reviews that take place. I work with people from all areas of the business where required, and speak with people at all different levels.
I continually work to develop skills such as communication, confidence and speaking up. I am currently looking to work on critical thinking which will help me within the role that I am in. I always learn and improve skills within my role as I get to work with a lot of different people throughout the business and can learn from everyone that I interact with.
My programme was a very good introduction into the world of project management. It has allowed me to understand all areas and focus on the ones that I am most passionate about. It also helped me to expand my internal network which has helped me immensely within my job role.
The structure of my programme was great from an internal perspective - I had regular reviews, and there were steps put in place for anything that I struggled with. Where the provider was concerned, there were a lot of issues toward the second half oy my course that I needed additional help from my employer with as I was unable to resolve them myself. Having a programme manager in place within the workplace, and supportive colleagues around me, meant that problems were usually fixed very quickly and I did not need to take on anything outside of the "learning" of my course.
My employer was supportive throughout my course. From check-ins on my wellbeing and course/work load, to understanding the support i needed. Any point which i was stuck, there was someone in the business willing to spend time with me to help. They also stepped in for larger issues that I faced to ensure that i did not need to worry. My employer was wonderful and could not have done more for me.
Very little. Our tutors changed regularly, and requests for help/clarification were not always answered. I went from getting top marks to getting mid-level marks as marking structures changed as each new tutor came in. Writing my final dissertation was very difficult, as we did not get support and the whole class needed to re-write it on a very tight timescale after our original submissions as we were not given support.
My qualification has helped me with an introduction into the role that I am doing, and has started me on the path to my career. The behaviours and skills that I have learned have helped me to better understand the community. It is quite different in practice to what it is in theory though, so it has been interesting to build on the skills that I have learned. Sometimes i feel that I can be at a slight disadvantage because of the differences in practice when i begin to venture into areas that I have only learned about, but this is to be expected with all theory/practical work.
Work is very inclusive and you will always find that there is at least a small group of people interested in what you want to do. Personally, I am yet to get involved in any social activities outside of the team that I work within. But we do have volunteering days that we are all encouraged to use each year, and we are encouraged to get involved in things.
Yes
It is a welcoming company. We are encouraged to bring our true, authentic selves to work. With an open door policy, we are encouraged to speak with who we would like to speak with, and in my experience in the team that I am in we are all treated like adults. I personally think that RS is a great company to work for.
By yourself. RS are attract brilliant talent, and we are all encouraged to develop into the fields that we work within. The company is welcoming, and in my experience everyone is always happy to help if you ask for it. We are encouraged to try new things and speak the truth.
