  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is an operational Firefighter. Day to day I am part of an operational crew, where we attend incidents ranging from fires, RTC's, water rescues and working at height jobs. In addition we work within the community offering home fire safety visits, school safety presentations and business fire safety audits.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have develop existing skills working within the community and engaging with local people to help improve there fire safety. In addition I have learnt many new skill around operational firefighting and the use of various equipment ranging from RTC cutting equipment to working at height safety equiptment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the program, everyday is different and I am continuously learning new skills that develop me in the role of a Firefighter.

  • The program is very well structured and support is always available throughout the program.

  • Support is always available when needed throughout the program.

  • We receive continuous support from the training provider and have regular reviews to check on progress.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Everything we need to do for the qualification benefits our day to day role, giving us knowledge around the job and provides a training structure.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I partake in football and golf societies through work societies.

  • Yes

  • Great working environment and everyone is really friendly and supportive.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue?
  • Do you research around the role you are applying for. If your are applying to be a firefighter visit your local station and speak to the crews. The service also offer taster days at the role related test which is good to have a go of before you go through the application.
