  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The course is a mixture of academy weeks and weeks shadowing on patch. Academy weeks are focused on theory and learning best practice when working with tools and appliances. When out on patch the learning is real time ‘on the job’ experience, putting into practaice the skills we have learned at the academy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learned about heating systems and how they’re installed into domestic properties. The main focus has been on installing the physical components up until now e.g. pipe work through walls, bending pipe, soldering pipe and putting the boiler in place. I have observed the operatives taking the technical readings and filling out the legal paper work but have not covered this in the academy as yet. I have been able to use skills I developed before starting the apprenticeship e.g. drilling and fixing clips and pipes to walls.
