I am currently working down in Winchester, doing a refurbishment job to a pre existing hospital ward. My currant day to day job role consists of managing health and safety on site, driving production, ensuring works are delivered on programme and making sure it is to a good quality.
During my time at VINCI I have defiantly developed and enhanced a wide variety of skills. This includes: problem solving (solving problems on site on a daily basis), rational and logical thinking (solving technical issues and coming up with streamline and effective plans on how to manage works), communication and people skills (there is a wide rang of people that are involved in a construction project and everyone plays and major part so it is vitally important that everyone communicates)
I am thoroughly enjoying my programme and have had a great deal of support along the whole way, this includes all project base team members, Senior leadership team and academy personal. I have found that Apprentices are given a great deal of responsibility on projects and this has been a massive positive for me, making me learn quickly and helping me adapt to the industry which ahs made the programme very enjoyable.
the programme is organised very well. I am site based 4 days a week and heavily involved in delivering the project and the attend university one day a week. I have enjoyed doing university this way as it breaks the week up and also helps me to remain focused going once a week instead of doing it in blocks. I do find there is a lot of extra work that needs to be carried out and this can sometimes be over looked as you are doing full time work, university and off the job hours and training which i find very time consuming.
I feel i am supported very well by my employer and all needs are satisfied. As apprentices we are given 3 study days per academic year to help with university and I'm assured that in my final year of university if i required a bit more time away from the project due to up coming exams/Course work this would be accommodated by the business.
LSBU support us well, we do 3 monthly reviews with are academic support worker to make sure we are on track, we also have a personal tutor to help us with any questions we may have.
I feel a lot of key knowledge i have learnt from being on site and being amongst all the work faces, however I have gained some important understandings of construction through university.
I haven't been involved in many extra sports events or professional net working events, however i have many enjoyable team nights out during the course of my apprenticeship which help to build relationships amongst one another and boost team moral.
Yes
Very good company with plenty of opportunity within the business and a clear path way to progress.
Its important to stay focused and remain positive. Construction can be very challenging however extremely rewarding at the same time so remaining dedicated is key.
