This involves interacting with clients and working within a team to prepare and audit their statutory accounts. This can be on site with the client or working from the office with each week being something different depending on the company you are working with.
I have developed a wide range of accounting skills which will be very useful in my career moving forward. I have also developed other skills such as time management, communication and dealing with conflict.
Every week is something different which I enjoy. I find the role challenging and rewarding which keeps me motivated to continue to develop in my career.
The training programme is very well organised with set blocks made available to take time away from work to attend college and study for professional qualifications. This plan is established in the first year of the apprenticeship and it maps out the next three years of your career.
The team at Smailes is highly supportive, the majority of staff have trained with Smailes or are in training so everyone is aware of the difficulties in the journey and are there to provide support when needed. First Intuition also provide excellent support with the exam side of things.
Tutors from FI are always available over email and provide brilliant support. They always make time for any queries even when you are not at college and are studying at home.
The level 7 qualification has really helped me understand some of the more complex areas of accounting which I have then been able to bring into my role at work. It also works the other way and activities performed at work aid me in my studies.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved outside of work. Examples of this include football tournaments, cricket teams, netball teams and many other social events.

A great place to start your career in accounting. It is a great place to learn and you get given exposure to complex work from the start which lets you develop quickly. Most of the firm are training towards qualifications as well which means there is excellent support in place.
Don't worry if you have never done anything accounts related in the past I hadn't when I first started there is lots of support in place and you pick things up very quickly due to the exposure to work right from the start.
