  • On my Flying Start sponsored degree placement in Edinburgh, I have been involved in working with various teams across different subsectors on financial audits. This consisted of carrying out aspects of testing on areas of Financial Statements, whilst also receiving training and coaching from more senior members of the team to support development.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • Throughout this Flying Start sponsored degree placement, I have been able to develop both my professional and personal skills. Through on the job coaching and trainings, I have been able to further develop the fundamental technical accounting and auditing skills, building on these from both my previous placement and the knowledge developed at university. Alongside the professional skills, I have strengthened personal skills such as communication and teamwork by being around other experienced team members.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • Overall, I have really enjoyed this sponsored degree placement. In particular, I have enjoyed the variety of work across the clients I have worked on, as well as having the opportunity to travel to London to work with a variety of knowledge teams who have allowed me to challenge myself to enhance development. The sponsored degree also has a great support network in the firm for Flying Starts from people managers and programme managers, the buddy system for those on their first placements, the Flying Start champions in each office and university contacts.

  • Overall, the placement has been well organised through having a structure of training and client work. Alongside this there is a dedicated support network, including the Flying Start team who have been helpful in any issues or concerns experienced whilst being on placement.

  • From my time at PwC, I have learnt a lot about the positive, inclusive company culture and what it would be like to work there through the various insight events and trainings held across the offices.

  • The sponsored degree has helped me in the right direction for deciding what I want to do in my future career path.

  • PwC provides plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees through a wide variety of office networking events and by having the opportunity to work with a variety of teams in the firm.

  • I would recommend PwC to a friend and to anyone who is considering a career in audit due to its positive, incluse culture and having the opportunity to work and network with a variety of knowledgeable teams. By being on this sponsored degree, it has been an invaluable experience for building my personal and professional development, as well as having the opportunity to work with great individuals on the teams I have worked on across placement.

  • One main piece of advice I would recommended to someone considering applying to PwC is to be yourself and be able to demonstrate a willingness to work hard, as well as having the fundamental personal skills such as communication and teamwork.
