my role is a ringway apprentice. the gang i work with is a PRT gang which involves all aspects of jobs on the highways. on a day to day basis i learn everything on site.
over the past six months ive learned alot for example tarmacking ( 6ml, 10ml, 20ml base), ive learned how to curb on drive ways and accesses ( edgers, 6*5, 10*5, radius curbs), ive learned how too lay iron work for example ( gulley lids, man hole lids, water box lids, stop tap lids). and its all helped me so far on jobs weve done in the past and future jobs.
ive been at ringway for just over six months now i can happily say io enjoy every minute of it. i enjoyed it within the first week at work. the gang that im with look after me let me have ago at all aspects of the job and all the guys that ive been able to work with have looked after me and let me jump on whatever they need doing.
the programme is very organised all the assessors teach and come across very polite and well mannered and i learn alot from every block session ive had so far. but my supervisor and manager at work always asks if there's any problems and always lets me know how its going with my apprentiship .
if need anyone too talk too ask questions about things im conserned theres always someone too talk too in my depot or at other depots or over the phone
my training provider always thoroughly goes through tasks that have been set on the theory side of the course and also on the practical side of the course which helps me out alot.
it always helps me to have that extra bit of information for example when i go back to site and there's something weve done similar at college and ive been showed the correct way it helps me over come little problems i can therefore solve
darts on a Monday night where all the lads from work come together to play, there's options to play football in a football team that has been made by the lads and we also try too go for a curry every month all together.
Yes
because the apprenteship helps you learn alot for your qualifications the guys you work with always look out for you and let you have a go at everything so you can eventually use that for your end of year examinations and the supervisors and managers always help out with everything i need.
go for it and see what happens for the future and always give it 100%
