I'm a footways operative who role on a day-to-day basis includes ripping out footways around Worcester and Malvern and replacing them with new curbs or resetting the old curbs and laying new tarmac.
I have developed more patience when it comes to working in teams and further teamworking skills. New skills I have learnt include laying curbs and tarmac, using plant.
I enjoy the programme and being allowed to work with a gang who are very welcoming
The programme is very organised joined a gang on my first day and the college dates are sorted for you along with travel, and hotels.
I can recieve as much support as I need and when i ask my supervisor they will sort it as soon as possible.
We receive as much support as we need as one person strength may be another's weakness
Most of the skills I have learnt from this job happen outside the college dates however college is useful as it strengthens those new skills and makes you more confident in the new skills.
You can do your Duke of Edinburgh through Ringway and there are many more oppotunities.
Yes
It a skilled job which cant be replaced by ai in the future so there will always be work for people and we need younger people getting involved in this work environment.
Be open to the experience of others and get as much exposure to new things as you can.
