  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a journalism researcher for BBC News, which involves monitoring all of the recorded material for the News Channel and bulletins, connecting guests digitally to go on air, writing copyright logs, keeping across live coverage from news agencies, and playing out material for external partners.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've developed skills in the technical elements in broadcasting the news, the crucial team working skills needed to work in such a fast paced environment, and the industry standard vocabulary used when speaking about journalism research.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy being a part of such an iconic and world renowned company that has such an important impact on our society.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the apprenticeship is fantastic, with a great balance between the learning aspects of the course with the on the job moments. I've been able to develop real life skills due to the nature of this structure, and being in a real workforce rather than learning about it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As an apprentice, there are multiple different outlets to support my journey through the course, and I therefore feel very supported throughout every element of the apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Bauer Academy do well in giving us enough information to confidently complete our portfolios and understand the process towards our end point assessment whilst simultaneously giving us the space to focus on our daily jobs and learn on the job skills.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In the learning sessions with our learning provider, I am able to develop skills in lessons which I can then apply to my job, often giving me a slight advantage when approaching new tasks that I would otherwise not have been confident with.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are social events with other apprentices at least once a month, as well as other clubs that you can join with wider BBC employees.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's given me the opportunity to work in a company that I otherwise would not have been able to, as well as allowing me to have a greater understanding of my career progression, and the role I would like to do after my apprenticeship.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • I'd try to be honest and truthful to yourself - they seem to always want a new perspective on things and so your authentic self will be able to give them that.
