  • Machining components for the build of MOD submarines

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Both. I already own metal machinery snd had basic skills and understanding , but I've learnt extra knowledge methods and procedures with working eng solutions out and furthered my skills and capabilities .

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Good/great . Can't wait to get to work some days great support from all staf levels and colleagues at work. Very flexible and understanding support system in place, love shift work. My work life balance has never been better .

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Generally good and college is well work out largely in course content and orgaisation of classes. Skills coaches monitor work loads and develop plans and targets, further learning available, pay good for level of work , sometime demanding workloads but all jobs have times of high demand manufacturing .

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lot and lots . There's a department, support and monitoring for any problem you could have, extra activities to engage with if you wish too and fantastic encouragement from leaders constantly .

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Good on request all lectures will assist and go the extra mile to ensure you can get all the information required . After that it's down to the student to take up the information . But largely I've found the content and teaching very good .

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Larger, broader content of the course give a bigger manufacturing knowledge of the industry than my job role would actually require , but that's a good thing and assists in development and potential promotions or other job roles within the bussiness

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Lots and lots , I'm not really bothered about sports , and I have 2 small children so I have limited spare time but if asked to help out I'd be more than happy to assist any activities where and when I could .

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Just a great employer, work incentives, good feeling of being looked after, expanding bussiness and great people . I wish I'd had done my job 10 -15 years earlier


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Research the bussiness, most roles require good to fair maths and English qualifications , research the job roles well. They can be confusing and go talk to the skills recruitment teams at the walk in centre in the town or the open evenings .
