As a Business Apprentice, I have the opportunity to move around the business on various placements in the various Business functions. During these placements I am trained to carryout daily tasks on my own, and carryout work in smaller focus groups to help improve the apprenticeship programme
During my Apprenticeship, I gained an SVQ level 3, which allowed me to show off my skills to an awarding body who awarded me the resulting qualification. Whilst carrying out the SVQ and full time work tasks, I attended college on day release where I obtained an HNC in Business.
I enjoy working at Selex ES. I am always well supported by placement managers and given a good level of responsibility. The workload from day release at college and SVQ work is challenging, but more than manageable whilst working.
I feel valued by Selex ES as it is always well publicised internally the work apprentices are doing to help/make improvements to the business, and we are often branded the future of the company along with the graduates on site
The support from management when required throughout my apprenticeship has never been in question. The placement plan is structured very clearly. There are always improvements to be made, and many are currently in process to improve the weaker areas of programmes, thanks to the proactive attitude to making change when required.
When required, the training provider is always very quick to help out and provides the support to a high standard, usually at a time that suits us as apprentices.
During your apprenticeship, you receive support daily from placement managers with tasks, and you regularly meet with the Apprentice Training manager to discuss your progress, and raise any queries you have.
I feel the salary package is strong and very competitive. Being someone who is still classed as 'in education' and 'in workplace training' I feel the salary is strong for my programme.
There are lots of events the company get apprentices involved with and often organise. This has provided me with practical experience in event management. Something I have enjoyed, but never expected to get the opportunity to do.
