Answering emails, shadowing HR colleagues, scheduling meetings, delivering presentations/training, data management, general admin, creating presentations, managing short-term projects, contributing to long-term projects
Improved skillset using Microsoft Office (including Excel), developed people skills, developed time management and organisation skills, learnt about general HR duties/responsibilities and have used lots of new platforms/tools in my work
I really enjoy it - skills coaches, line managers and other people who you come into contact with during training are friendly, approachable and happy to answer any question you have. You're never held back/kept at arm's length and are allowed to perform more or less complex tasks based on your abilities and confidence, rather than being kept on a strict programme.
Very well organised - line managers keep in contact with training provider so that they know what goals you're aiming for/skills you need to enhance when you start your placement, building your training around this. There are regular check-ins and progress reviews, which are generally very helpful.
If you need any support regarding your placement, there are lots of people you can speak to, including your line manager, skills coach or functional apprenticeship lead - all have made me feel at ease about bringing any future issues to them. There is also easy access to mental health and wellbeing resources for all employees.
My tutor at Kendal College is always more than happy to answer any questions I have, no matter how small. She checks in regularly with how well we understand the content being taught and offers clear goals and milestones during regular progress reviews with Kendal College. Resources provided during/following lessons are really helpful and easy to use.
As well as teaching the course content really effectively, my tutor is always happy to share insights from her own vast HR work experience. She also gives us an overview of current affairs stories relating to HR each week, which has helped me to better understand how the course content applies both in stories from the news and in my own work experience.
There's the local higher apprentice council and local support project, which both offer social and networking opportunities for apprentices. There are also lots and lots of extra-curriculars which are not organised officially by BAE but are promoted amongst the people who work there and open to all.
Yes
In my experience, apprenticeships at BAE are really well organised to set you up for a full-time role here. Managers, functional leads and skills coaches are very intentional with the placements/training offered to you, and I always feel supported to speak up/ask if I have any doubts or need help.
Understand that there's a lot to learn, not just about your specific line of work but also about the company in general and behaviours expected. It's very full on but there is always support you can access if you need it.
