First 6 months are at college, learning different subjects. Now I am back at my 'FC' (or permanent place of work), it feels like they don't really know what to do with me. Spend alot of time just sat around doing nothing. There is also alot of 'red tape' at Amazon meaning that as an apprentice I'm not really allowed to touch anything at all which is frustrating as an 'engineer' as I am unable to gain relevant experience on tools etc.
Learnt some new skills at MTC (college), however, some of the tutors were poor and some of the subjects irrelevant to our role.
I don't really think the college programme is fit for purpose as it stands.
The college part was fairly well organised, however, at the time of writing, I have been back at my FC for 3 weeks and still yet to hear from my assessor or be guided on what I need to be doing here to work towards my apprenticeship.
Not a lot, I have to chase them to see if I can get more information about what I should be doing or when I'll hear from certain people.
Support is there if needed, but the structure of some of the level 3 modules means they are sometimes squeezing 3-4 assessments into 2 weeks which is intense, especially if it's been a while since you were at school or haven't achieved much before academically.
It does to a certain extent, but could be much more tailored to the work we will be doing here at Amazon.
Not that I can see.
Yes
The opportunity to gain a level 3 qualification is obviously still a good thing, regardless of whether I think it's a great course or not. Also, the pay here for an apprenticeship is really good.
Amazon offer some of the best paid apprenticeships in the UK. It's a great opportunity for anyone, but specifically the older people who may already have a lot of financial responsibility and can't afford to take too much of a pay cut to change careers.
