I work in the finance department at BBC. My working week usually consists of working 4 days a week with 1 day protected for studying for an accounting qualification (ACCA). I work on various projects on an ad-hoc basis including budgeting, financial planning and forecasting.
I did not have a background in finance prior to starting the apprenticeship. Everything was completely new to me but it was taught from the basics and I’ve learned a lot in terms of both financial/business knowledge and various skills including advanced excel and creating financial contracts.
I enjoy it a lot more than I expected to.
Communication from the learning provider could improve in terms of clarifying requirements such as end dates, logging in of the job training, timelines etc. However, the modules and learning material are well structured.
My manager is extremely supportive in terms of helping my learning, workloads, providing study time, allowing reasonable adjustments and checking in with me regularly. My employer supports flexible working which is very helpful.
Yes there are various extra curricular activities including social activities, an active apprentice community, youth network, sports, wellbeing events and staff networks such as those for neurodivergence, women etc.
Yes
It’s a very welcoming place to work where you genuinely have the opportunity and support to learn while applying what you learn at work. The people working at BBC are very friendly, respectful and support diversity.
Really know what you’re applying for and be your authentic self!
