Pre-contract and Post-contract quantity Surveying duties from estimating at RIBA Stage 0 all the way to the RIBA Stage 5 construction phase whilst engaging with key stakeholders.
I have learnt all of the skills a quantity surveyor needs and continue to develop thee as my experience grows.
I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far and am particularly glad I’m doing it with Mott MacDonald. It is a lot of work doing the study alongside work but i am still enjoying it and it fits my learning style.
Overall, it is very well structured, but a new apprentice rotation has been introduced recently without proper organisation. I’m sure they will work out the fine tuning with feedback from the apprentices whihc is normally taken on board.
I receive a great deal of support from more senior quantity surveyors on my projects and wider team. The quantity surveyors on my projects have been like mentors to me and are very much invested in my development.
Overall, as my university is completely online, I do not have a great deal of interaction with the university. However, the support network is easily accessible and fairly robust.
I have learnt the basic knowledge and now have a high-level overview of my role and the tasks I may have. I also know what is required and the answers that need to be asked to complete the tasks within my role.
There are a lot of networking, experience and best practice related events held regularly.
