  • I am training to be a fully qualified plasterer. I work on tenanted properties and I do plastering repairs in peoples homes.

  • I have learnt lots of skills over the last couple of years, not only physical plastering skills, but I have learnt social skills and developed my confidence. I talk to new people every day.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy it, I am more of a hands on type of person, I really enjoy anything hands on. I also enjoy the fact I work somewhere different each day or week as I like doing different things and I like meeting different people.

  • It is structured well by Sandwell college and Sandwell council

  • We receive as much support as we require, Sandwell council have supported me with my dyslexia and studying.

  • My mentors help me learn new things every day. I also have a van permit so I can drive the vans and gain cofidence.

  • They host events at row at lane sometimes, I personally have never attended one though

  • Yes

  • I am learning a lot through working with them


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council?
  • Lots of detail in the written applications is useful. Also, don’t think because you haven’t done a trade before that you can’t do it. We all start somewhere and an apprenticeship is that perfect place to start. You will gain confidence and skills as you progress.
