  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the corporate tax compliance field within PwC. This involves working on the tax returns for large companies on a day to day basis. My job title is a trainee associate 2 as I am now entering my second and final year of training. My interaction are normally kept to within compliance as it is not a client facing role nor a role which requires much contact with the client. The communication within the team though is very strong as jobs require teamwork between the different grades. I have worked on projects for very large FTSE100 companies, this mainly involves preparing the first draft of their computation but I have also been down to a clients office for a week to do data collection and analysis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learnt new skills, most obvious is my tax knowledge that has come from job experience more than anything. We have also had various internal training courses to cement this knowledge as well as learning the intricacies behind some methods. On a personal level I have developed my communication skills greatly as it has been a new experience having to work collaberatively on a professional level with people older than me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think the programme is excellent and a brilliant opportunity for anyone that is certain of what job route they would like to take. The main positive is the fact that it does not require you to go to University and have no job certainty (as well as forking out a load of money). The skills and knowledge that I have gained I can't see being taught in University and are aspects that are specialised to the job. The people are work with are very nice and understanding of my studies, they put a lot of trust in me on projects and give me help if I so need it.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is set out very clearly and from the first day at my induction I have had the 2 year course set out in front of me. There is a lot of contact with my Kaplan assessor so I am always in control of where I stand on the course of my professional qualification.
