Everyday I use design software such as Civil3D to design drainage and create drawings for construction projects. I help to prepare reports for each stage of construction as well as attend meetings relating to each project.
Yes I have learnt plenty of new skills since starting my apprenticeship with Mott MacDonald. I've worked on the design side of the industry for 3 years now and have learnt and developed countless skills, learning about the process and coordination of projects, as well as developing my design skills.
I enjoy my programme as it is matches my interests, I have always wanted to be a Civil Engineer so finally being able to work in the industry coming straight from school to an apprenticeship has been a joy.
I believe my programme is very well organised, I joined Belfast Metropolitan College in 2022, Mott MacDonald and course directors at the College made it very clear what the next six years would look like.
Mott MacDonald have supported me very well over the last 3 years, the provide Apprentices with up to 8 study days a year, this can be taken to revise for upcoming exams and is very helpful.
Belfast Metropolitan College and Ulster University have helped a lot and supported me well throughout my time there. I couldn't recommend Belfast Met enough to people that want to start an apprenticeship in Civil Engineering.
Yes I have learned some things in my course that have helped, and link back to my day to day role in Mott MacDonald.
I help to organise CPD events for the office which is needed when obtaining professional qualifications from the ICE. I also attend sports and social events with work colleagues after work and have participated in the ICE five aside each year.
Yes
When I joined the company I realised how big it actually is and love some of the projects I have worked on. I have worked on projects worth over £350 million and it feels good to be a part of such a major project. Each day I finish work feeling like I have achieved something.
I would advise others applying to Mott MacDonald to show that you are eager to learn, apprentices aren't expected to have great technical learning when they apply as they are there to learn and develop!
