I manage 24/7 security operations at Halfords Head Office and Distribution Centres, overseeing in-house and third-party teams. I ensure colleague safety, control access, conduct audits, investigate incidents, and manage gatehouse operations. I collaborate across departments, support emergency responses, and occasionally deputise for the Security Manager when required.
I have learnt to use AI tools, lead performance reviews, and apply leadership models. I have also improved my leadership, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills while supporting audits and developing smarter training processes.
I’m really enjoying the programme as it’s given me the opportunity to reflect on and improve my leadership style, learn new tools and models, and apply them directly to my role. It’s also helped me develop my team more effectively and grow in confidence as a manager.
The programme is well-structured, with clear modules and learning outcomes that link directly to my role. Resources like webinars, templates, and guides are helpful, and the pacing allows me to apply what I’ve learned in real-time. The structure supports both personal development and achieving the apprenticeship standards.
I receive strong support from my employer. They allow time for apprenticeship work, provide access to relevant resources, and encourage me to apply what I learn. My manager is supportive of my development and regularly checks in on my progress, which helps me stay on track and motivated.
I receive good support from my training provider. My coach is approachable, provides regular feedback, and helps me link my work-based evidence to the apprenticeship criteria. The learning materials and webinars are useful, and I feel confident that I can reach out for guidance whenever I need it.
The qualification has definitely helped me perform better in my role. It’s given me a deeper understanding of leadership, communication, and team development. Applying models and tools from the programme has improved how I manage performance, support my team, and handle challenges more confidently and strategically.

I would recommend Halfords to a friend. The company values its employees and offers a supportive work environment with plenty of opportunities for professional development. The focus on teamwork, personal growth, and work-life balance makes it a great place to develop my career and build lasting relationships.
My advice to others applying to Halfords would be to focus on demonstrating your passion for the role and company values. Show that you are a team player, eager to learn, and adaptable to change. Make sure to highlight your ability to handle responsibility and prioritise customer service. Research the company’s culture, values, and goals to show that you are a good fit, and be prepared to ask thoughtful questions during interviews to demonstrate your enthusiasm.
