I am a maritime watch supervisor, I lead a small team that updates the globally recognised maritime picture. Daily tasks include using big data sets to visually represent positions of ships at sea. I have daily interactions with cross government organisations relaying data and information. My role also requires me to provide training and refresher training to my colleagues that I lead.
Since starting I have learnt many new skills from a technical point of view, working with systems that I had no previous experience using. I started as a watch keeper but with my experience and strong leadership qualities I was able to get promoted to the position of watch supervisor.
Whilst I always enjoy learning and developing new skills, I feel that the programme that I am currently undertaking is not aligned to my job role making it difficult to meet KSB's required in the apprenticeship. I am hoping that as the apprenticeship develops it gives me more learning points and skills that I can develop within my role.
As I have settled into the programme the structure and organisation has become clearer and much better. The support from the Impellam training team ([This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]) and my tutor at PETA ([This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]) is fantastic, any issues that I have had have been easily communicated and rectified quickly. The modules I have to complete are easily accessible.
I tend to not ask for much help, but when I do the training team at Impellam and PETA are always on hand to answer my questions and explain things. the support so far throughout my programme has been great.
We have a meeting 3 / 4 weeks via teams, where any questions are answered directly. But my tutor is always contactable via email and always responds in a timely manner. Support from the training provider has been great.
I do not feel that the qualification is aligned to my role as a Maritime watch supervisor, I would say that my role is more of an analytical role not a technician role. As an example my assignments ask me to write about building cloud storage solutions and how I integrate this into my work place, this sort of thing is not in my job role.
Unfortunately not, I would be interested in attending professional networking event / meetings but this is not something my role allows.
Yes
Impellam group are fantastic to work for, I have been able to progress in my role and there was a great support network from our line manager. From my first interview to now all the team are approachable and go above and beyond to help if they can. They also offer great initiatives like the diamond award where you can win £150 in vouchers and benefits like health care, electric vehicles and more.
Bring with you a great working ethos, with a good attitude, impellam will support you and help develop your skills and knowledge.
