  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Every day is different, one day I could be going down to Salisbury plain supporting on demolition day, next. I could be driving soldiers around so they can learn their specialty and by the end of the week, I could be duty driver (driving to and from the hospital).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained my HGV C1+E and C2, I’ve learned how to prepare the vehicle in guidance to the military standard, I have also gained my Hazard awareness card.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it very much, every day is something different, I work with a great bunch of people and the work/life balance is really good.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very. I have monthly reviews with my coordinator to see how I am progressing on the apprenticeship, I gained my HGV Class 1 within the first 5/6 months of being in the programme and now gaining valuable experience in the job training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If you have an issue, I am very confident in going to my supervisor to get things sorted and if I have a quiet day, I can go and ask my supervisor if there is any jobs that I can do or if I can shadow another driver.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Everything I terms of main training I.e. HGV Class 1 &2 were booked in and completed within the first 6 months and now it’s up to me to use my initiative to gain experience whilst on the job.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Having my HGV license helps massively as that is what a majority of my role entails, so it now means that I can perform 80% more of my duties at work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • During my apprenticeship, I am looking into doing some voluntary events with the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Very good company to work for. Work life balance is very good. The role/duties are fairly easy and quick to pick up.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • Just be yourself, most of the staff in the drivers room are ex military and will take you in/under their wing if you are ex serving or not.
