My current role is invoice management as part of the accounts payable team at Asda. On a day-to-day basis this involves spot checking invoices and making sure as a department we are not crediting/submitting any incorrect information on the invoices. If there is incorrect/faulty processing on the invoice then my job is to locate these errors and rectify the invoice.
I have definitely developed my overall professionalism in the role and the learned the effectiveness of time management in data indexing as my role requires me to use various different systems which means I must plan my time carefully on each system.
Since starting my programme I have enjoyed learning all the new skills that working in an office gives me. There has been some challenges over the 7 months I have been in the business that I haven't enjoyed however overall I would say I have enjoyed my programme.
My programme has been relatively well structured however there has been some internal issues within the business that has made the apprenticeship less structured then what I might have hoped. At the beginning we all chose our rotation's that we want to move into over the 2 years of our course however due to factors like teams being dropped from the business this meant for all of us that our chosen rotations were not effective and we were placed where was most efficient for the business.
I receive a good amount of support from my employer with my apprenticeship work etc. I was also given support in my first rotation when I was struggling to get to grips with the expectations of the social team which was a very big team which I struggled in as my first rotation. The support from there was very good i n helping me find a rotation that was better suited for my working methods
I receive monthly one-to-ones with my tutor to check in on progress and targets so that I can maintain a good level in my work. We also have bi-weekly workshops which are useful in preparation for our end point assessment.
It gives us a something to base our work towards and helps us better our work so that we can showcase a strong portfolio when it comes towards our EPA.
I am currently playing 5-aside football for Asda on Thursdays. This is a fun way for me to network in the business and get the chance to talk to more senior people through playing a sport that we all have a passion for.
Yes
Because it is a great employer that offers many roles to young people and places trust into their workers to perform well for the business which I believe leads to a better work environment where people want to succeed.
To seek help if you are stuck in your role but to embrace the role and not be afraid to express yourself
