Apprentice Field tech. The job entails that I can out and fix the Virgin media services that each customer has, or install fresh new Virgin media services. The services are Digital Tv, Broadband and Telephone. The Day will have 5-6 Morning jobs, 4-5 Afternoons and 3-4 Evenings. At these jobs we interact witht he customer, diagnoise the fault, fix the fault at hand then service any other products they have to prevent future issues. We also interact with the head office routing team and other depeartments along the way to help with the products, such as the activation team to help activate products or routing to help with travel and job times. We are fully responsibile for our selfs and customers saftey, to make sure all products are working and with int he right spec and health and saftey too.
The course is working towards a Level 2 Telecomunications certificate. Their has been lots of internal training where we were taught how to do our every day job, such as wiring CATV and TELCO wires, taught how to use each product in full details. We have had external training for PDA useage, meter useage and NRSWA. Myself I have developed my confidence, and my self belive has increased massively. My driving skills as well and my phone skills.
I really love the team I work with, they make me feel like a family member and valued, my boss as well really helps. The company can be fun and when doing training days we are looked after massively. The work is okay and I enjoy trying to solve problems, how ever the stress level are very high and I find myself getting upset and angry often. The days are also very long and I find myself very tried and mentally drained.
I feel valued, there are lots of bonus that are inplace to reward people for going out there way or doing a good job. Witht he course work for example, for doing well and gettring it complete we got offered a £50 voucher. There is also shout outs and lots of recgonition for those of us that do well.
I find the organiseation very good, we are giving information very early and helped out along the way. The course work was always given to us with plenty of time to complete. My Manager is always at the end of the phone and willing to help even on days off. Study days have been tough and need a bit more to them, the head manager was never around much and when he was he was often too busy to help us out. Not as approchable.
My Manger helps me out all the time when I am in need. He is very easy to get aholf off, even on days off. He is never angry and not unapprochable at all. I have never felt lost as I know he will be there to help me.
My manger is the same as my emplyer at this moment in time so everything that I have said to question 6a applies to everything for question 6b.
As I currently live at home I don't have much costs, and as I haven't finished the course yet I haven't started my full wage. When I am on my full wage and have moved out I can give this a proper anwser.
Not advertised if there is any. I have my own social life that I part take in. I play football, go to the pub. See friends and family, play a Card game competitively and see shows. I do find this hard to do now with the long shifts and soratic days off.
No
I would recommend the service but as a job I wouldn't. The stress and pressure on each of us is too high and already i have seen many of my fellow team members leave. I would recommend the company as a whole as from the experience I've gained already the other departs are different and don't have the same level of stress and pressure.
Don't worry about your skills as everything will be taught to you along the course. Getting into Virgin media is all about being the right person, make sure to be willing to work, nice and friendly and confident in yourself.
