I assist the underwriter in the end to end process to retain and obtain business. I'm the point of communication between the underwriter and the broker and my job is to ensure anything ranging from docs to dealing with queries is dealt with and to make sure the standard of service we provide is at a high level and to create positive relations in order to process a risk transfer.
I have learned to utilise excel spreadsheets in order to track my progress on renewals and new business in order to acknowledge the stages I'm at with each account and to plan ahead in terms of chasers. I have also acquired the skill of time management as I have to plan ahead on my days to ensure everything is complete which is required from me.
I have enjoyed the programme so far as it has given me an opportunity within an ever-growing industry to start my career. The programme has allowed me to gain a wealth of experience within the insurance industry alongside acquiring professional qualifications on the learning side of the programme in order to give me the best chance at becoming successful.
The programme is well structured as there is a set out plan in terms of my work and training and the learning side where there is a learning plan. The plans include predicted/expected time stamps which guides us through and gives me an understanding of my progress over a long period of time.
I receive a huge amount of support from my employer. My team at Aon have guided me through the different aspects of the role by going through training and developing my skillset to a point now I can confidently operate in my role and complete a load of tasks independently.
My training provider at Davies has given me enough support to help me complete my first set of exams. They gave me an understanding of what the exams are like and the resources in order to give me the best chance in passing the exams. I hope the support will continue during the next part of my apprenticeship.
The qualification/learning side helps me in my role as it gives me a broadened view of how the whole insurance market operates. Key words pop up in tasks I have to complete in my everyday work life and from knowing these words from the learning has given me boosted confidence in completing such tasks.
There have been multiple networking events set up in order for us early career professionals to connect with industry experts who work in various different roles and are at different stages of the hierarchy. These networking events has allowed me to understand what they do in their everyday work life and what their job is like as it could be completely different to my role.
Yes
Aon has a positive and supporting work environment where everyone wants to help others thrive in their careers. Aon is inclusive and doesn't make anyone feel like an outcast within the company.
My best advice would be to be yourself as if you're not bringing an authentic version of yourself to Aon recruiters then you can't keep up the false robotic image. I'd also advise on researching the company before you apply.
