  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a BIM manager my day to day tasks involve reviewing BIM stratergys, COBie data, BIM Execution Plans, MIDP's etc. I will lease with the contractors to establish where the information is and progress that is being made. I regularly liaise with contractors to track the status and progress of information delivery. Additionally, I coordinate with lead Project Managers (PMs) and Technical Architects (TAs) to keep them informed about the current state of BIM information, facilitating smooth project progression.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time as a BIM assistant, I've acquired numerous new skills and become proficient in various software tools. Some of the most frequently used software I've mastered include Autodesk Revit, Solibri, Power BI, and Excel. Additionally, I've significantly developed my skills, particularly in communication, which is crucial for effectively liaising with various stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed and aligned.

  • I thoroughly enjoy the BIM program, as it has allowed me to learn many new skills and software, significantly improving my performance. Additionally, being exposed to various projects has broadened my experience and development, enabling me to contribute more effectively to our team's success.

  • The program was well-structured, combining weekly university attendance with hands-on experience at my job. This approach provided a balanced learning environment, supporting my end-point assessment and qualifications at university. The practical experience complemented the academic knowledge, enhancing my overall development and performance

  • I receive good support from my employers, who are always available for questions. This supportive environment has allowed me to take on projects independently, knowing I can rely on their assistance if I encounter any challenges. Their guidance has been invaluable in my professional growth.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training providers at university offer strong support, with dedicated sessions from my NVQ assessor to monitor my progress towards my qualification. I receive valuable feedback on assignments and guidance on improvements. However, the university can be slightly disorganized at times, with some units being taught inconsistently and teachers occasionally unavailable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • What I am learning at university significantly enhances my performance in my role. Some units are directly related to my work as a BIM assistant, helping me progress effectively. However, while some units provide general knowledge that doesn't directly correlate with my role, they still contribute to my overall understanding and skill set.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My BIM team has monthly socials where everyone from the BIM and IM teams enjoys activities like darts, crazy golf, and shooting. These events foster team bonding and relaxation. Additionally, we attend professional networking events such as the London Build Expo, which helps us stay connected with industry trends and professionals.

  • Overall I would recommend Mace to a friend as it has helped me to develop my skill, they provide structured learning, and there is strong employer and university support, alongside team bonding activities. Monthly socials and professional networking events enhance both professional and personal growth, making Mace an excellent environment for career advancement and industry connections
