  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role on a day to day basis varies inexplicably, admittedly I have a few tasks or a general theme in what I do daily, which includes monitoring cash flows for the large International business, performing reconciliations on these and other accounts, checking for client money and running CMAR's - all of which have client money regulations lorded over them which is an added consideration, but most days something uncontrollable gets thrown into the mix and it's my responsibility to sensibly consider how these issues can best be resolved and what significance they might have.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt more skills in the past 7 months than I've learnt in most of my life until this point, not only skills directly relating to my role in the business from a finance perspective but my interaction with all manner of people from within M&G or otherwise has allowed me to mature, develop and polish communication and behavioural skills which otherwise I would still be learning.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Hugely, I enjoy my work daily and am yet to rue coming into work. Further to this the HR team who manages myself and the other apprentices are key in the social enjoyment of working at M&G, as well as an already good and steady working and social relationship between us apprentices the HR team are keen to arrange and suggest team building events for ourselves, and external events with other companies within the industry which aim to progress our careers with a relevance to our industry.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • Very valued. From the day I started I was given the freedom to accept or decline as much responsibility as I believed I could handle, all of my jobs no matter how tedious or manual they seem are considered and thanked with a worth and am often given positive feedback on what I am doing.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very, the programme lasts between 12-18 months depending on the intensity of your job and how you feel you can juggle the working life and the study life. We meet regularly with our assessors and correspond often, further to this we meet and discuss with our line managers and HR managers so there is a level of transparency and assurance surrounding your study programme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As much as we please, they are used to book or manage our classes and exams, but can also be used for advice and they also assess our progress regarding a second qualification, our NVQ. Converse to this, they can be used as irregularly as you might want, if you simply want them to book your exams and meet with them occasionally there is no issue with you going ahead and doing the rest by yourself.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Again as much as you need, the offer is there for more than regular catch up's and discussions, but if you feel your approach to the programme is more suited to getting on with it by yourself there isn't a problem with this. Similar to your assessor you meet regularly with your employer.
