  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the Curzon Street Railway Station in Birmingham as part of the High Speed rail network that spans between Birmingham and London (HS2) I am currently responsible for a report that outlines the access and maintenance of structural assets, in terms of inspection requirements, level of criticality of the element, the requirements for access and how this interacts with other disciplines, whether hatches need to be provided etc. As well as working on construction support, responding to technical queries on the project also.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In the course of my apprenticeship, my confidence in public speaking has greatly improved, my communication skills, technical engineering skills have greatly improved building on my (very little) knowledge leave sixth form. Computer skills, learning new software, autocad, revit, but also building skills of how to use word and excel efficiently and properly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot, its teaching me a lot of skills I will use throughout my career and my colleagues are always happy to help when needed.

  • The programme is well structured and there is a clear path from beginning to end. Including points to reflect on progress during each year as a good way to estimate where I should be and where I currently am.

  • I received a lot of support in terms of projects and work but also personally as well, I feel I can approach any member of my team if I have any concerns with anything and they will do their best to help.

  • I would receive a good amount of support if I should require it

  • I am learning skills and gaining knowledge from university that I can apply to projects that I am working on, though it depends on the work available at the time

  • Yes, at Arcadis there are lots of social activities that take place in and around the office including charity days that we can give back to the community.
