  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I spot the sweeper, also I cut the joints and help with breakout and I also help around the paver when we are laying the material.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills, I had never used a saw until this apprenticeship, I also had never banked any types of vehicles before, also I had never operated any machinery of this type before,

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed it a lot as I met some great people during the course and made some life long friendships, also being an apprentice my work colleagues took time out of their night to always help me and make sure I understand what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well organised but I wished they had more in depth information about the types of material we use and why we use different types of materials so I understand the different benefits to certain materials and what are the different weaknesses.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support my contracts managers [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] are always there to answer any questions and queries I have, also my supervisor [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is fantastic he is always looking over me and I feel that he has helped me develop my knowledge on what is going on around site and why we do what we do, Also [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and he’s gang are some of the most amazing people I have ever met since the first night I started they have always helped me develop the skills I have learned so far and they are always pushing me to become more eager to learn and succeed, these guys are an absolute god send to work with I couldn’t have asked for a better group of gentlemen to work with. I really feel like they have taken me under their wing and are trying to create the next generation of surfaces at the highest standard.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot I’m a very eager person and I have become someone who wants too learn more and become better so I want too push to learn more.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the college should have the machines that we use I understand that the college have a breaker and a whacker plate as it is the minimum but in a real work place we use a 3CX and rollers it’s a shame that the college doesn’t have the space for these machines but Wirgen has helped to gain a small understanding.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No, we have a lot of work on having the Essex contract so we work a lot and I personally have children so I’m a pretty busy man.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Vinci to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Vinci is a good company and I feel that they have many opportunities for me and I can hopefully go far in my career with Vinci.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
  • Go into this apprenticeship with a good attitude and be willing to learn and work hard because it will pay off, you will be given the tools to succeed if you show that you want too succeed.
