  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I liaise with the Client and subcontractors while communicating with site team to ensure works are completed. I make payments and issue orders. I manage risk on the project and the contractual requirements. I manage costs and update/maintain cashflow forecasts ensuring costs are kept in control on the project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to communicate better and more efficiently by using consice language. I have gained teamworking skills by being a part of a large team. I have also gained critical thinking skills and multitasking. I am more confident presenting in meetings and leading them.

  • Colleagues are amazing. The project I am on is challenging but rewarding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • First year of the apprenticeship, we are classed as Early Career Professionals in the business where we are invited to team working sessions that cater to deveping skills like team working and presenting with confidence. The college is based on block release which helps with the college side of the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager is reactive to feedback and questions, ensuring I get the best learning and prioritises my development. My mentor ensures I am learning something new everyday and always sets tasks that are out of my comfort zone.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Leeds College of Building are very friendly and management is very approachable. When given feedback they look into and ensure better learning/ support is provided. Time tables and rooms dont always match and the college is a little disorganised however when an issue arises, they look into it and resolve it promptly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Currently the project I am working on is at RIBA stage 5 construction. I have noticed that the college mostly covers theory on processes between RIBA stage 0-4 Pre-construction which will help when I am tendering however is not so beneficial with the current project I am working on.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The Company holds a company seminar each year where all employees are invited to one location. Occasionally, summer/christmas and easter parties are also held for networking.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • JN Bently offer amazing opportunities for progression. They prioritise development and suggest training courses for all employees. However what differentiates JNB from the rest is all employees within the company are willing to help and go out of their way to do so.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JN Bentley?
  • If you are applying for a certain role however dont meet the experience or qualification requirements, it will be beneficial applying for another job within the company that you are qualified for and then moving internally as the company promotes internal progression and provides the right training and resources in order for you to progress.
